So "Lonesome Dove" may be a mini-series, but it's perhaps one of the most Texas-themed stories ever made into a movie. The John Sayles directed film follows the life of a Texas border town and revolves around a decades-old mystery film in which the city's police are involved.

This eerie film places West Texas at the center of its plot, with Big Bend National Park in Marfa serving as the backdrop for some of the most memorable scenes. The compelling story and memorable characters of "Lonesome Dove" and its characters have given Hollywood and Texas-born filmmakers more than just a few script ideas.
